Pickleball

Small court, underhand serve, and you can play a real game the first day

The easiest way into a racket sport: the court is a third of a tennis court and the serve must be underhand, so a first visit is a real game rather than an hour of picking up balls. A no-volley zone near the net, the kitchen, keeps rallies long and flattens differences in age. Someone will pull you into a game.

First stepTurn up to an open-play session with a borrowed or cheap paddle and finish one game; the kitchen rule clicks after that.
