Antiques

An old object's age and history are written in how it was made and worn

What separates it from thrifting is dating: the same bowl's foot, glaze, marks and wear tell you whether it is a century old or last year's copy. A first piece costs little at a flea market; the real tuition is buying wrong. So narrow down to one type, such as old glass bottles or brass, handle a lot, and buy slowly.

First stepChoose one category, such as old glass bottles, spend a flea market visit only looking, photograph ten examples to compare their making and wear, then buy the cheapest.
