Collecting
Book Collecting
The same title in a first printing and a fifth are two different objects
Second-hand shops, book fairs and online sellers are the hunting ground, and a copy can cost pocket change or real money. The skill is identifying editions: first edition, which impression, whether it is signed, whether the dust jacket survives — those decide whether you hold an old book or a collectible. Damp and sunlight destroy a collection slowly, so where you keep it matters more than what you buy.
First stepChoose one author, find one of their books in a secondhand shop, work out which edition and printing it is, and shelve it out of the sun.
