Plane Spotting
Watch from the fence, learn the types, and every tail number says where it came from
Big airports have viewing spots and you can turn up with nothing; binoculars help but are not required. What separates it from watching planes is that everything is checkable: an ADS-B app names the registration, type and route of whatever is overhead in real time, until you stop needing to look. Rare types and special liveries are what people are actually waiting for, and the waiting is often long.
First stepInstall an ADS-B flight tracking app, spend an hour at a known spotting point beside the airport, and identify five different aircraft types.
