Birding

It starts at a window, and you learn the calls before you can name the bird

A window or a nearby park is enough to begin. Consider binoculars when you want a closer look at plumage; there is no need to buy a full kit first. When leaves hide a bird, its call can be easier to recognise than its outline. Keeping a list gives you reasons to stop on an otherwise familiar walk.

First stepInstall a bird ID app, sit for fifteen minutes by a window or in a nearby park, and identify three species, at least one by its call.
