Flute

No reed: your lips split the air across an open hole

The most portable of the winds, small enough to live in a bag. No reed means no consumables, but it also means getting any sound takes practice: the lips must shave the air into a thin sheet across the hole, and the first days may produce nothing. It uses more breath than expected, and long phrases will make you dizzy at first.

First stepBuy or rent a student flute and practise with just the headjoint until it sounds for five seconds, then assemble the whole instrument.
