Balcony Gardening

Everything lives in pots, so watering works nothing like a garden

The difference from ground planting is the container: roots are confined to a small volume that can dry out in a single summer day, so watering is far more frequent than in a bed and one missed day can be fatal. Bigger pots are easier. Wind and reflected heat make a high balcony harsher than an open garden.

First stepGet a generously sized pot and a bag of potting mix, grow one herb on the balcony, and water only when the soil is dry two centimetres down, for a month.
