Jazz Dance

Ballet's turns and leaps set to pop music's hits and hips

The difference from hip-hop is technique: jazz takes its turns, kicks and leaps from ballet, with pointed feet and turnout, then sets them to pop rhythms and hip isolations, so it is more about line than hip-hop and looser than ballet. Adult classes usually start with half an hour of technique before learning a combination. Soft jazz shoes let you turn cleanly.

First stepTake an adult beginner jazz class in soft shoes, follow the warm-up technique, then learn the combination and dance it through once without stopping.
