History Study

Pick one period or question and go deep, past the general survey

What separates it from ordinary reading is having a question: you fix on a period or a specific problem and follow footnotes back toward primary sources, rather than working through one survey after another. Go far enough and you find sources that contradict each other, and handling that contradiction is the actual substance.

First stepChoose one specific question, read one book on it, and follow its footnotes to a primary source you then read yourself.
