Curling

One player slides the stone; two scrub the ice in front of it

The rules take an evening; controlling weight is the hard part, since a slightly different push leaves the stone in the wrong place. Teams are four, which makes it the most social thing on ice, and a club's beginner night usually drops you straight into one. It is not demanding, but it asks your knees to hold a long slide.

First stepBook a learn-to-curl night, where the club supplies sliders and brooms, and deliver one stone that comes to rest in the house.
