Ice Skating

First learn to stand and to stop; gliding comes after

Rinks charge by session and rent skates, and the first hour is mostly spent near the wall. The two things to learn first are falling and stopping, because nobody accelerates until they can stop. Rental boots are soft, and buying a pair that fits makes everything abruptly easier. This is about moving freely, not jumps or spins.

First stepRent skates for a public skate, keep a hand on the boards at first, and end by gliding half the rink with both hands free.
