Tabletop RPG
The rulebook is scaffolding; the content is invented at the table
It costs little — one rulebook and some dice, with free systems widely available. The real costs are time and roles: somebody has to run it, and running it means preparation between sessions, which is the commonest reason groups dissolve. Start with a one-shot rather than committing to a campaign meant to last a year.
First stepJoin or run a one-shot using free starter rules, and play one three- or four-hour adventure from start to finish.
