Choral Singing
You listen sideways, and standing out is the mistake
The goal inverts what solo singing wants: you are not meant to stand out, your voice has to sit inside the section, and singing too brightly damages the whole. So what you train is listening, to the person beside you and to the conductor, which matters more than tone. Most choirs are free or nearly so, and expect attendance.
First stepLook for a community choir that doesn't audition, sit in on one rehearsal, and sing a piece start to finish with your section.
