Xiangsheng
Two performers, a straight man and a joker, working on timing
Xiangsheng is a Chinese two-person comic dialogue, closer to a stand-up duo than to a play: one performer sets up and the other punctures, and the effect lives entirely in timing. Its form requires two people, so a full piece cannot be rehearsed alone. The way in is copying traditional routines line by line.
First stepFind a xiangsheng club, pair up with a partner, and learn a short traditional routine line by line until your timing matches a recording.
