Cosplay

Build a character's entire outfit from scratch, then wear it in public

A full costume pulls in sewing, foam armour, wig styling and makeup at once, which is why most people buy an outfit for a first convention and only then decide whether to build one. It is expensive in both money and time, and months on a single costume is normal. Wearing it all day is physical work; the shoes and the restricted vision are worse than they look.

First stepPick one character, buy a ready-made costume and wig, wear it to a convention for half a day, and note what was least comfortable.
