Five minutes of material takes dozens of rewrites to stand up
Open mics are free and signing up gets you five minutes, so the barrier is unreally low. The real work is writing: a bit gets tried many times and trimmed by what the room does with it, and that loop is the hobby. Dying the first few times is not optional, and almost nobody lands it early. Record every set and listen back.
