Air-dry & Polymer Clay

No kiln: shape it, leave it out, and it hardens on its own

The difference from pottery is that no kiln is involved: shape it, leave it a day or two, and it sets hard on a board on your kitchen table. The trade-off is that the result is not waterproof and not especially strong, so it suits ornaments and small jewellery rather than bowls. Polymer clay, baked in a domestic oven, holds up better.

First stepBuy a pack of air-dry clay, shape one small ornament, let it dry for two days, then paint it with acrylics.
