Colored Pencil
Built from many light passes: slow, and completely under your control
Like graphite it needs no drying time, but colour is built by layering — a dozen light passes over the same area before it reads as solid — which makes it the slowest of this family, and tens of hours on a small piece is normal. What you get back is total control and very fine detail. It can be put down and resumed weeks later.
First stepGet a 24-colour set, pick a single leaf, and build it up in ten light layers until the veins show clearly.
