Craft & Handwork
Blacksmithing
Heat iron until it glows, then hammer it into shape while it is soft
Almost everyone starts on a one-day course at a forge, because an anvil, a fire and the hammers are too expensive and too bulky to buy first. A hook or a bottle opener is the usual first piece, finished in a day. It is genuinely physical work, your arms and back will ache and the shop is hot, and safety means goggles and no synthetic clothing.
First stepBook a one-day intro class at a forge, wear safety glasses and cotton clothes, and hammer out a hook under the smith's instruction.
