Craft & Handwork
Metalworking
Saw, file and solder sheet metal into the shape you had in mind
Unlike forging, most of this is cold work: sheet is cut with a jeweller's saw, filed true, then joined with a torch. Sawing to a line and getting a sound solder joint are the whole foundation, and most things become possible once those two are reliable. The equipment tends to live in a studio, since torches and pickling baths do not belong in a flat.
First stepTake an intro class at a metalsmithing studio, saw a shape from brass sheet, file the edges and solder on a small ring.
