No referees: the players call their own fouls
The distinctive thing is the absence of referees: fouls are called by the players involved and a genuine disagreement means replaying the point, and that convention makes the atmosphere unlike other competitive sports. You cannot run with the disc, only throw it, so movement is the whole game. It is far more running than it looks.
First stepGet a 175-gram disc, throw backhands with a friend until twenty in a row reach them at ten metres, then join a beginner pickup.
