Yo-yo
The yo-yo sleeps at the string's end while your fingers weave a web, then it comes home
Trick play uses a bearing yo-yo that sleeps at the end of the string until you bind it back, not the childhood up-and-down kind. A beginner one costs little. The first skill is a long, straight sleep, because every string trick needs spin time. Strings wear out and need regular changing, and practise with space around you.
First stepBuy a beginner bearing yo-yo, practise a straight sleep until it spins ten seconds at the bottom, then learn the bind that brings it back.
