Kite Flying
One line in your hands, and you can feel the wind change overhead
There are two paths. One is building a traditional kite from bamboo and paper, from frame to painting to launch. The other is a two- or four-line sport kite, steered with both hands through loops and dives. Either way the skill is reading wind: too little and nothing lifts, too much and the line burns your hands. Open fields or beaches, away from power lines.
First stepBuy a two-line sport kite, take it to an open field on a breezy afternoon, and practise until you can fly one full loop and land it softly.
