Bushcraft

One knife, one ferro rod, and a night spent with what the woods provide

Unlike camping, you carry less and rely on skill: lighting fire with a ferro rod, rigging a tarp shelter with knots, carving wood with a knife. A fixed-blade knife, a ferro rod and a tarp are the starting kit. Fire comes first, and it is much harder in damp woods than it looks. Check where fires and cutting are allowed.

First stepTake a one-day bushcraft course, or go with someone experienced to woods where fires are allowed, and light one fire with only a ferro rod, then put it out safely.
