Origami

One sheet, no cuts and no glue, folded until it becomes a thing

Genuinely free: one square of paper, and a crane in ten minutes. What gets hard is reading diagrams, because the arrow-and-crease notation has to be fluent or complex models stall on step one. Precision compounds, and a few sloppy early folds mean the last one will not close. Advanced models want thin, strong paper; printer paper tears near the end.

First stepSquare off two sheets of printer paper and fold a pair of masu boxes from a diagram; you're done when one fits over the other as a lid.
