Snorkelling

Watch reef life from the surface; first get comfortable with a mask and snorkel

You can watch reef life from the surface without a scuba tank. A well-fitting mask matters: leaks keep pulling your attention back to the equipment. Begin with an instructor in calm, sheltered water to practise using and clearing the snorkel, then observe with a buddy. Currents, waves, depth and entry and exit points all matter.

First stepTake an introductory session in calm, shallow water. Borrow equipment to practise mask fit, snorkel breathing and clearing, then observe from the surface with a buddy.
