Fly Fishing

The line carries the weight, and the cast itself is the craft

The fundamental difference is physical: the fly weighs almost nothing and the line is what carries it, so casting is a skill practised on its own, and hours of casting on grass is the standard way in. The setting is usually a stream and you stand in it, in waders. The kit is expensive and does not cross over.

First stepTake a casting clinic at a fly shop or club, practise on grass first, and lay out ten metres of line straight.
