Crochet
One hook, one live loop at a time, and nothing unravels if you stop
A single hook keeps only one loop live, so putting it down cannot unravel anything and undoing a mistake costs you only that stretch, which is most of why it is easier to pick up than knitting. The fabric comes out thicker, stiffer and less stretchy, so its strength is not jumpers but three-dimensional pieces and stuffed toys, built up round by round.
First stepWith a chunky hook, crochet a coaster in the round: start from a magic ring and increase each round until it's palm-sized.
