Knitting
Two needles, rows worked back and forth, and a fabric that drapes
Two needles hold an entire live row at once, which is why a dropped stitch runs down the fabric and is a nuisance to pick back up. In exchange you get a smooth, elastic fabric that drapes, and garments worn against the body — jumpers, socks, hats — are almost all knitted. It is slower to get going than crochet, and casting on is the hurdle.
First stepCast on twenty stitches on thick needles, work plain knit rows until the piece is ten centimetres long, then bind off.
