Cross Stitch

One stitch, counted square by square from a chart, with no drawing involved

Where embroidery is free-hand across many stitches, this is one stitch, counted: the fabric is a grid, the chart names a colour for every square, and you fill them in. Nothing has to be drawn and no stitch has to be chosen, which makes it the easiest way in and the best of these to do in front of a television. The cost is freedom.

First stepPick a bookmark-sized chart, stitch one letter on 14-count Aida, and tuck every loose end away on the back.
