Songwriting

Music and words have to work together, or neither carries

It costs nothing: an instrument and a phone recorder, or just the phone. The difficulty is that two things have to hold at once, because a good melody with empty words and good words that sing badly both fail. The workable approach is a rough complete section before polishing any line. Whatever you hum, record it immediately.

First stepHum a melody into your phone, rough out words for it, and finish one full verse and chorus before polishing anything.
